Portugal is one of the richest and most diverse wine-producing countries in the world. With over 4,000 years of winemaking tradition, 14 demarcated regions, 31 designations of origin and more than 250 indigenous grape varieties, Portugal produces wines of unique and unmistakable character, recognised and awarded at the most important international competitions.

From the fresh and aromatic Vinho Verde of Minho to the generous and complex Port wine of the Douro, from the full-bodied reds of Alentejo to the elegant sparkling wines of Bairrada, Portugal offers a diversity of styles that few countries can match. LTA facilitates access to this richness for importers, distributors and HORECA operators in international markets, with particular experience in the Lusophone markets of Angola and Brazil, where the cultural affinity with Portuguese wines creates natural and growing demand.

Origin
Portugal — all wine regions from north to south of mainland and islands.

Portugal has the world's oldest appellation of origin system, the Douro Demarcated Region, created in 1756. This tradition of rigour and regional identity results in wines of marked character, deeply rooted in the territory where they are produced. Portuguese grape varieties — Touriga Nacional, Alvarinho, Baga, Aragonez, Encruzado, among many others — produce wines with unique personality that clearly distinguish them in the international market.

LTA does not represent a single producer or brand — we work with multiple producers from various regions, selecting for each client the combination of labels that best serves their market and commercial positioning.

Red Wine
The largest and most diverse category of Portuguese wines. From young and fruity reds to long-aged reserves, including old-vine indigenous varieties. Profiles for all markets and occasions, from everyday consumption to fine dining.
    White Wine
Growing international recognition for Portuguese whites, from the aromatic and fresh Vinho Verde to the elegant and textured Dão whites, through modern and expressive Alentejo wines. Excellent quality/price ratio in several segments.
      Rosé Wine
Increasingly quality rosé wines with good freshness and appeal to the modern consumer. Suitable for markets with strong rosé consumption, notably Angola and Brazil.
        Sparkling Wine
Portuguese sparkling wines — notably from Bairrada and Beira Interior — are gaining increasing space in the international market. Classic method (Champagne) and Charmat method available, in white and rosé versions.
          Fortified — Port and Madeira
Two of Portugal's most recognised wines worldwide. Port wine, produced exclusively in the Douro Valley, is available in multiple styles: Ruby, Tawny, LBV, Vintage, Colheita and White. Madeira wine is unique for its ageing process and four main grape varieties: Sercial, Verdelho, Bual and Malmsey.
            Vinho Verde
Category with its own identity and protected origin, produced exclusively in the Minho region. White, red and rosé. Alvarinho is the most prestigious sub-region, with aromatic wines and excellent international presence.

              Classifications and Designations

For correct communication to consumers in the destination market, it is important to understand Portuguese wine classifications:

              • DOC / DOP (Controlled / Protected Designation of Origin) — highest regulatory requirement category. Wine is produced in a delimited region, with authorised grape varieties and specific production rules.
              • GI / PGI (Geographical / Protected Indication) — regional wines with verified origin but more flexible rules. Often excellent quality and better price/quality ratio.
              • Regional Wine — allows greater freedom of grape varieties and techniques; many reference producers choose this classification for greater creative freedom.
              • Wine — base category, without mandatory geographical indication.

              Packaging and Formats

Formats and packaging adapted for international export and different distribution channels.

              • 0.75 L glass bottle — standard export format
              • 0.375 L glass bottle (half bottle) — for HORECA and premium offers
              • 1.5 L glass bottle (Magnum) — premium segment and gifting
              • Bag-in-Box (3 L, 5 L, 10 L) — for HORECA and high-consumption markets
              • 6 or 12 bottle export cases, shrink-wrapped and palletised
              • Premium wooden box packaging — for collection wines and fortified wines

              Quality and Trust

              Diversity with Guaranteed Origin
All wines come from producers registered with the IVV (Institute of Vine and Wine) and with the respective designations of origin or geographical indication certifications.
              Multiple Producers, One Commercial Relationship
Clients access wines from multiple regions and producers through a single contact, simplifying the import process, documentation management and logistics.
              Fit for Destination Market
Selection of labels and styles adjusted to the consumer profile in the destination market, with specific experience in the markets of Angola, Brazil and North Africa, where Portuguese wine has a historical presence and natural cultural affinity.
